THE GLEAMING LIGHT OF HUMANITY AMIDST THE CHAOS
The whole nation was shocked to hear the news of a plane crash in the Calicut airport on Friday night. The Air India flight from Dubai with hundred and ninety one people in it attempted to land amidst heavy tailwinds and rain but it failed to hold on runway due to poor weather and skidded. The plane broke into two parts and fell into a deep gorge. Around twenty people including the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the accident and many of the passengers were severely injured and some are in critical condition.
The news was really heartbreaking for the people of Kerala. The state is in it's most vulnerable condition now. Adding to the worldwide Corona pandemic, Kerala is experiancing heavy rain for the past few days and was already in the shock of a terrible landslide happened in the Idukki district on Thursday night.A worldwide pandemic, lockdown, social distancing, heavy rain and standing in the edge of a flood, landslide and now a plane crash. What more it takes to break the spirit of people? Isn't it enought to shut off the little ray of hope that remains to shine in people's mind?
But the scenes from the crash tells a different story. A story of bravery, of sacrifice, of determination, of kindness, of hope, of love for the fellow bein, of survival and of unbreakable humanity. From the pilot to the people who is standing in line to donate blood in the hospitals, every single person is restoring our belief in humanity. It was the chief pilot Capt. Deepak Sathe's timely effort which prevented the plane crash from becoming a huge explosion. He, being a alumnus of the National defense academy and a former fighter of Indian air force showed immense courage in that panic situation and sacrificed his life to save his passengers. Then came the local residents who played major role in rescue mission. Before the official team came into the scene they rushed to the area and rescued as many people they could. They put their life in danger without thinking about the contagion, the rain and a possible explosion. The people tried so hard to eliminate any kind of traffic block and shifted injured passengers to various hospitals in Malappuran and Kozhikode in available vehicles. Along with this people were helping the passengers to find their missing relatives and also to find suitable blood donors. The people in the long que for the blood donation who came even in the middle of night and unending rain is another face of courage and humanity.
It is true that the news of the crash is so devastating. But at the same time it is giving reasons for people to find solace. The way men came forward to save his fellow beings without thinking about their safety was so releiving for the rest of the population. It reassured that nothing, literally nothing can destroy the human spirit. Eventhough we are distanced by the pandemic, eventhough we are forced to fear the companionship of another one, there is still humanity left among us and it is our strongest weapon against every barrier comes in our way. And the incidents of yesterday is a hope and belief, that we will overcome. And ultimately we will survive.
